THE SIKORSKY S-70B-6s OF THE HELLENIC NAVY
The Sikorsky S-70B-6 Aegean Hawk is a derivative of the SH-60B/F Seahawk, in service with the Hellenic Navy since 1995. For many people, the Seahawk still represents the best naval helicopter currently in service around the world, bringing to naval operations what the AH-64 Apache has brought to the land battlefield and the F-16 Fighting Falcon to the air-defense mission.
''AEGEAN HAWKS'', foreworded by the Commanding Officer of the Hellenic Navy Helicopter Command, Captain Andreas Xenakis, captures in words and images the service of the Aegean Hawk and the 2nd Navy Helicopter Squadron tasked to operate the type in Hellenic Navy Service. Chapters cover historical background, technical description, Squadron organization, the men behind the controls and sensor equipment, their special training, maintenance structure and the unseen heroes of the technical support, together with the specialties of ship-borne operations. Also covered is the Aegean Hawk's full spectrum of missions, including Anti-Submarine and Anti-Surface Warfare, OTHT & AEW, SAR, Medical Evacuation, VIP/Executive Transport, Naval Special Warfare Support and the operational advantages expected through the upcoming introduction of upgraded Aegean Hawks, boasting of new and more sophisticated electronics and weapon systems. A complete list of all 95 different H-60/S-70 variants produced or just proposed is also included, as well as personal accounts from the crews that fly and operate the flying frigate, as the type is known inside the Hellenic Navy.
AEGEAN HAWKS documents in words and stunning ground and air-to-air images the operational effectiveness of the Aegean Hawk and the professionalism of the 2nd Navy Helicopter Squadron who operates the type.
