ALAS SOBRE ESPANA No 16: DEWOITINE D.371/372 - Un caza frances para la Republica, 1936-1939
WINGS OVER SPAIN Series, Book no 16: DEWOITINE D.371/372 - A French fighter for the Republic, 1936-1939
The Dewoitine 371/372 was a French-made parasol wing monoplane fighter aircraft of the 1930s. It was one of the first attempts at a faster pursuit aircraft using the monoplane configuration. Its fixed landing gear used a tail skid. The open cockpit was located slightly behind the wing. The radial engine allowed for a comparatively wide fuselage and cockpit.
They arrived unarmed and piloted by mercenaries, and after machine guns were quickly adapted, they were launched into the defense of Madrid as part of the “Escuadrilla España” led by the French activist André Malraux.
