The Nieuport Ni-52C1 was the fighter aircraft of the Spanish Military Aviation during the 1930s, and at the time of the outbreak of the Civil War in July 1936 it was almost the only fighter available on both sides.

The Ni-52 was outdated by 1936, but its firepower did not essentially differ from that of most military fighters in service in Europe. He demonstrated this with a dozen aircraft downings in a month of action, by the republican pilots Cascón, García Lacalle, García Herguido, Peña, Roberto Alonso Santamaría and Manuel Aguirre; and of the rebels Miguel Guerrero, Narciso Bermúdez de Castro and Joaquín García Morato in the south and Senra and Ángel Salas in Aragón.
