Lavochkin La-7 – This 88-page softback profile takes an in-depth look at this WW2 fighter aircraft designed and built in the Soviet Union.
Developed from the Lavochkin La-5 series of aircraft, the La-7 featured an aerodynamically refined airframe linked to the powerful Shvetsov ASh-82FN air-cooled radial engine and was armed with two or three 20mm cannons. Entering service in the last year of the war, the La-7 served with many of the elite Regiments of the Soviet Air Forces and was flown by amongst others the Allied “Ace of Aces” Ivan Kozhedub. The profile details the development of the type including high altitude and rocket powered variants and two-seat UTI training version, its wartime combat career is recorded, as is service with the Post-War Czechoslovak Air Force. The story concludes with a look at the camouflage and markings carried by the type together with a technical analysis of the aircraft.
Copiously illustrated throughout with photographs, 4 pages of 1/72 scale drawings and numerous line and detail drawings. 6 pages of colour artwork illustrating 19 aircraft in all, (plus a further 3 on the back cover) and now 5 pages of colour photos of the cockpit interior, wheel-wells and fuselage details of a preserved aircraft are a strong feature of this title. The re-print features an extra 4 pages with more colour photos (as noted above) and detail drawings. Fully bi-lingual.
