THE EVZONE UNIFORM: The history of the Evzone Uniform through 40 Paintings of Yannis Mylonas.
The 40 colour representations of Evzone life by the painter and costume designer Yannis Mylonas belong to the private collections of Alexandros and Lena Haitoglou, who provided them in their own generous way for use in the present publication. Thus, its readers are given the opportunity to mentally follow the captivating history of this glorious uniform from 1821 to the present. Though the drawings of Yannis Mylonas, one can also see the evolution of the foustanella and the conditions under which it took place (changes in the system of government and of aesthetic criteria, modernisation of the armed forces, new requirements in army uniforms etc).
At the same time, various other groups are presented who used the foustanella or doulamas, but did not belong to the Evzone corps, such as the men of the Samian Gendarmerie, the Makedonomachoi, the Kavasides of Greek Consuls and then those placed at the administative authorities of Mt Athos etc.
